Aistear – At the Doctors’ Surgery

| Comment 0

Our theme for Aistear for the month of May is ‘At the Doctors’ Surgery’.

The children are introduced to new vocabulary such as ‘surgery’, ‘reception’, ‘receptionist’, ‘syringe’, ‘medicine’, ‘ vaccination’, ‘prescription’, ‘thermometer’, ‘patient’, ‘stethoscope’ etc. using our new oral language programme Starlight.

We then practice using this language during Aistear time through role play, finding and identifying items in the sand pit, using playdough to make items such as the stethoscope or thermometer and through art and craft activities.

Developing vocabulary is our focus for school self-evaluation this year.
